3 Holiday Outfits

The holidays are upon us (Happy Hanukkah!) and Christmas is right around the corner, which means it's time to plan the perfect holiday party outfit!

To me, nothing says the holidays like lace, sequins and shiny fabrics! Today I've styled three outfits, perfect for that holiday get together - or just a fancy night in with the family! Who says you can't wear sequins and play a mean round of Catch Phrase? :)

How fun are the multi stripe ones?? Love. Reminds me of a big ball of yarn! haha.

I got a pair of the ballet flats when they came out last spring and sadly they just aren't as comfortable as the classics. I've been thinking about getting a second pair of classic toms but haven't been able to decide which color/ style!! I love the cords.. but the herringbone is just so fun too! Do you have multiple pairs of Toms? Which colors do you like best?

Comfy Cozies for Fall

In Iowa-land it feels like winter! My husband has been joking with me since April when we moved here that "winter was coming next week!" All of a sudden it happened! Dang! I'm crossing my fingers for at least a few more beautiful fall days, but coworkers tell me that these cool temps are here to stay!

Here are a few pieces I've been eyeing to help stay warm during these cool fall/ winter temps! Can't you just picture snuggling up with a book or catching up on the DVR wearing these comfy clothes?

Old Navy picks

I was running errands the other day and stopped into Old Navy to check out this scarf that I've been admiring online. Turns out it's even better in person! It's super soft and is long enough to wrap 3 times if desired, although personally I like the loose look of just twice.

Of course I had to browse to see what else was going on + try on a few items.. I left empty handed, but believe me, I'll be watching for a sale and I'll be back! :)

My biggest dilemma is with the polka dot sweater. I do love polka dots (typically much smaller in size), but this sweater is super popular in the blog world because it's a good look-for-less for this J Crew sweater. I'm just wondering how I'll feel about it next year? I prefer this bright color combo (also comes in white with blank and camel with black) but apart from jeans I'm not sure what else I would wear it with. The white with black feels too summery, and the camel and black just isn't as fun, but perhaps more wearable? I probably wouldn't tire of it as quickly either... Oh fashion dilemmas! Input appreciated as always! :)

The humidity here in Iowa has calmed down a little bit  so it doesn't feel as awful! Even though we are still in the middle of summer, it's typically around this time that I start craving some fall weather and fashion! Here are a few things I'm obsessing over right now.

I had an interview last month that I was really excited about but after calling and following up for 3 weeks and still not getting an answer one way or another I'm moving on! Isn't that so rude? Even if it is a "Sorry we're going to go with somebody else" at least tell me something! Anyway. Hope you're enjoying your summer!

Monochromatic

I named this outfit-"Something Blue." I wanted to wear something with color and it was a challenge.  It was fun being monochromatic today, but I'm not sure it will be a weekly occurrence :)

P.S. These shoes should have been included in this post, but I didn't think to look for them on ebay, or look on the tag to see what they were called: Merrell "Plie". I bought them the summer I worked at VS (and was required to wear black shoes). They're great for work, and although I don't typically love Mary Jane style shoes, pants take care of that! :)

Comfort Shoes for Work

In this post I referenced Birkenstock shoes and promised a follow up post! A couple of years ago I learned the value of a good shoe. Is it easy to go to Target or Pay Less and grab a couple of on trend shoes for $20? Sure. Will they last for years and provide all day comfort at work? Only if you are lucky!

I guess I see the importance of paying more for a shoe knowing it will stay together longer, provide comfort and support! I'm always on the hunt for a comfort shoe that is not insanely ugly, perhaps even.. cute? Unfortunately you often have to make a slight concession on the style front, but I promise it's worth it!

Before you completely judge me for sharing these shoes on a "fashion blog", bear with me. These are real shoes - for real people that are on their feet all day! Would I love to be able to wear the cutest shoes to work? Maybe? But my day can feel long enough, I don't need to be bothered by sore feet.

Ok no more preamble! I have gathered a collection of shoes made by Privo by Clarks, Merrell, Birkenstock and Mephisto! I have personal experience with these brands and know they have great shoes, so I'm hopeful that my picks will not disappoint!

I'm lucky to have a fairly casual dress code at work, and these sporty options would be absolutely fine and easily cross over to the weekend!

The other day I went to Old Navy to try on this and this (wasn't impressed with either and left without buying anything!). While in the store, I caught a glimpse of their sandals, and I was struck by the look for less quality! Definitely some differences, and comfort is unknown, but I'm still impressed by their similarities!

-I'm really craving a new pair of sunglasses, aviator style (#9). Perhaps as a nod to my aviator husband! I've tried on a few cheap-os at target, and they weren't quite right! I will be victorious and find the right pair!
-white tee (#13) - since I'm just "window shopping" I have no clue how this tee fits! I do think there is just something wonderful about a good white tee.

Wedges: The IT Shoe for the Spring

 After reading Tina's fabulous piece on cargo pants, I knew I was meant to follow up and find us social workers some awesome wedges for Spring 2011. Don't worry I know that Wedge sandals are always a popular staple for the spring and summer seasons but my friends, this upcoming season, the wedge sandal will be more thick and exaggerated almost like a clog. As one shoe trend insider reported "wedges are normally seen sloping downward from your heel to the tip of your toes, be on the lookout for clog-like versions of the wedge sandal where the height of the sandal will be more of a platform which will lessen the high-heeled effect of the shoe."

Ok so I know what you're thinking, this is PERFECT for us Social Workers. I mean I spend most of my days running around the streets of D.C. and am not interested in spraining my ankle even if it is in the name of great fashion. However, I am 5'1 and always feel great when I am able to get away with a shoe that gives me a little height at work.....

Ok I must confess, I have to let you know that I tend to me the least "practical" out of my fellow bloggers so please please give me your feedback if you think this look is best saved for the weekends away from work :) Hope you enjoy my findings!
