Blogger Spotlight: You Go Glen Coco

Today I am spotlighting the fashion blog, You Go Glen CocoDoesn't the name of the blog its self just attract you to it??!!  Liz's posts are extremely witty and smart.  I tend to read her blog during my lunch half-hour because it makes me smile and uplifts my day a little bit!   I'm constantly educated about the newest look, nail polish, celebrity gossip and more....love it!   So, I asked Liz a few questions about fashion, trends, and her inspiration for her blog.

1.  Who is your fashion icon? That would definitely be my Great, Great Aunt Scotty. She lived until she was 105, and spent the vast majority of her life traveling and collecting amazing clothes from all over the world. When she passed away I inherited some of her amazing jewelry and dresses. I try to channel some of her spunk when I get dressed every morning.

2. What is on your "I wish" wish list? Pretty much everything from Charlotte Ronson's Spring line. I love the 90's vibe. And this pair of red Miu Miu wedges that I came across on Net-a-Porter that I think would be absolutely perfect for Summer. But only in my dream world!

3. What is on your realistic wish list? The perfect pair of black leather boots. I feel like I've been looking forever! I just can't seem to find a pair that fits me right.

4.  What is the one item someone should splurge on? Probably a pair of black leather boots, haha. But besides that, a great winter jacket. I mean, you wear it every day for a good portion of the year, you should definitely love it!

5.  What are the most important things you have learned about fashion? To not take it too seriously. It's about having fun and being creative. If you're worried too much about if everything matches or is perfectly on trend, it's not fun anymore. And also, wear what you feel comfortable in! If you're constantly fussing and adjusting, it's not a good look.

6.  How would you define your personal style? Funky, comfortable, and fun.

7. What are some of your favorite fashion websites, magazines, or books? I live by Refinery 29. It's both informative and hilarious. A day doesn't go by that I don't check it at least once.

8. Who is your favorite designer and why? That's tough. Across the board, probably Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel, because he is consistent in delivering amazing pieces that are true to the Chanel brand. But as I mentioned before, I'm really loving Charlotte Ronson right now. And Rag & Bone. Oh, and Alexander Wang!

9. What current fashion trend is attracting you at the moment? Everything 70's! I can't wait to wear bell-bottoms and bright colored wedges this Spring. I'm all about it.

10. What clothing (or accessory or shoe) staple should every woman have in her closet? A great watch! I absolutely adore my Michael Kors watches. Definitely the best investments that I've ever made, because I can wear them with anything and everything.

Wishing for Spring/Summer and the Beach= Thoughts of Lilly Pulitzer

I have been desperately wishing for warm weather and lighter clothes.  I live in what I would consider the deep south and it has been in the 30's and 40's here.  We even had snow this week. Redic...  In addition to the extreme cold, I have also had a cold.  All of these things equal miserable.  So I am counting down the days till warmth and fun, colorful clothes.

I used to think that Lilly clothes were for little girls and older women.  But I have come to realize that there are some cute fashionable clothes.  I love that the collection is colorful.  I have sooooo many blah colors in my winter wardrobe that I have been adding pops of color here and there.  I refuse to look dreary during the winter.

My husband and I plus 2 other couples, a single and a puppy went to Seaside, FL for New Years.  In Seaside there is a Lilly store and the girls and I were iching to take a gander and pretend it's summer at the beach.  However with all the holiday festivities, we never made it :(  I think we all had the same idea, nothing says beach better than bright and cute clothes.  Cue the Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2011 Collection (some of my faves):

1. Nadia Dress Pattern-$378
2. Lela Shift Lace- $328- Comes in White and Black too.
3. ShaunaTunic Printed Engineered-$198
4. Top: Lana Top Slub- $54. I love this versatile, yet simple shirt.   Great for the weekend or work! More colors. Shorts: Resort Bermuda Twill Solid- $64- Comes in blue and lt.pink
5. Blossom Dress Jacquard-$228
6. Cissy Skirt Printed- $98- This is such a fun skirt!  It attracted me because it has flamingos and it brings me back to sorority days, as the flamingo was out local mascot!

7. Eryn Dress Stripe-$298.00
8. Top: Hanna Sweater Argyle Stripe- $128. Shorts: Callahan Shorts Solid- $54- Other colors too.  I just love this whole look. So simple and clean.  The model is even wearing the shoes I've highlighted below.
9.Picture Perfect Espadrille- $198-I'm always looking for a neutral shoe with some height!  Too bad these don't come in itty bitty :)
10. Kiki Dress- $238- Also in Navy.  Add a cute clutch and a colorful wrap and I would totally be wearing this to a wedding this summer!
11. Charmed Bracelet- $68- Had to add this after my Charmed, I'm Sure  post!
12. Coral Ring- $175- This ring is so interesting!  This would make a major statement with the right dress!

Lands' End Canvas: Spring picks

I woke up thinking about spring outfits... not even kidding! I'm so over this winter stuff! Naturally, I go to my happy make-believe world by window shopping online for new spring clothes! Even if I never actually buy anything, it sure is fun!

Here are my spring picks for Lands' End Canvas!
1. herringbone jacket - $79.50
2. lightweight v-neck cardigan - $49.50
3. gingham poplin shirt - $44.50
4. lightweight twill overcoat - $130
5. route 63 snap tote - $138
6. bucket bag - $138
7. boatneck sailor dress - $59.50
8. ruffle henley tank - $24.50
9. modern aviator sunglasses - $49.50
10. leather sandals - $19.97 on sale!
11. sadie quarter strap espadrilles - $78.00
12. chambray full skirt - $49.50
13. superlight crewneck tee - $19.50

A few notes:
-There's nothing super fab about this specific trench (#4), in my opinion, but I think a khaki trench is perfect for spring! I got one last year at Gap outlet and can't wait to start wearing it again!
-I couldn't decide between bag #5 and #6 so you get both! I love the light, spring feel! I will be on the hunt for more of this look!
-I'm really craving a new pair of sunglasses, aviator style (#9). Perhaps as a nod to my aviator husband! I've tried on a few cheap-os at target, and they weren't quite right! I will be victorious and find the right pair!
-white tee (#13) - since I'm just "window shopping" I have no clue how this tee fits! I do think there is just something wonderful about a good white tee.

Don't you feel better just looking at those fun spring items??

"hey miss scarfy!"

I'm serious - my coworker greeted me that way this morning! She jokingly asked if I was covering up inappropriate love marks! What!? Um, no. She also went into a story that started with "Back when hickies were cool I used to..." Did I miss something? Were hickies ever cool? lol. Needless to say, I bared my neck showing I have nothing to hide!

Not only do I love wearing scarves, but tonight I'm helping my mom out at an event with a focus on scarves! You see, my mom is a "wardrobe consultant" - is that not the coolest sounding job.. ever?? - for a company called Doncaster (maker of the beauteous blinged out cuff, and the scarf I'm wearing in this outfit!). Tonight my mom and her business partner have an event at  a local wine shop called "Wine, Women, and Wardrobe"! In addition to the usual wine tasting (5 tastes for $5- holla!) they will be sharing spring trends and scarf typing tips! I promised I'd help!

OK enough jibber jabber! My "miss scarfy" outfit!

So glad I decided to take a few shots outside! Loving the sun today!!

The details - jacket: Loft outlet, sweater: Limited (a few years old), scarf: Doncaster, pants: Loft

Two Thirds Rule

Did you read up on color theory? Here is an example of two-thirds rule

The details - sweater: NY&C circa 2006, pants: Gap true straight pant, scarf: market in Paris, camisole: Kohl's (recent purchase - on sale!)

Proof of my color theory following goodness:
I picked two-thirds of this triad!
Have you found inspiration from the color wheel?!

dolman sleeve outfit of the day

Happy February!!
